Voting Dilemma

February 18, 2008

I don’t like this at all.  Anybody I wanted to vote for in the primary tomorrow has already dropped out of the race, and I don’t like anybody that’s left.  I know that since I’m a Christian, I’m “supposed” to vote for Huckabee, but I don’t like his plans.  I think the fair tax plan is going to be terrible for businesses both big and small, and if businesses aren’t doing well, employment doesn’t do well, and if employment isn’t doing well, nobody will have money to spend on anything, and if nobody buys anything, what good is a 30+% sales tax?  Plus, I’m sorry, but he’s spineless.  He wants a universal smoking ban, so that American citizens can’t even smoke in their own homes, but he thinks that state laws banning sodomy might be unconstitutional.  As utopian as the world could be, you can’t legislate good behavior or good health.  It’s illegal to kill people, but murder is still a problem.  Smoking pot is banned, but people still do it all the time.  I’m not saying pot or murder should be legal, I’m just saying that the legislation does very little to stop it.  McCain is definitely NOT a conservative, and was probably a Republican back in the 80’s, but there’s little to define any separation between him and the 2 Democratic candidates.  Barack scares me to death – I read an interview with him where they asked about what powers the Constitution gives the President, and he has no clue.  He sounds good, and he gives a good, “I have a dream” soundbite, but he will dismantle our military worse than Bill Clinton (anybody remember the movie Black Hawk Down?) and our gas will go over $5 a gallon – quickly.  Actually, it’ll go up with Hillary, too.  Both of them want to take away the tax credits and incentives given to the oil companies.  You think Exxon is just going to eat that loss?  Nope.  But do you think they’ll allow us to drill for our own oil in Alaska or build more refineries?  Nope.  So, everybody stinks.  I heard someone say that historically speaking, if a Republican candidate does win this election, they’ll probably only last one term and for the next 20-30 years, we’ll have Democratic presidents.  THAT scares me.  I would really rather deal with a liberal president for the next 4 years than deal with it for the rest of my life.  Never in my life have I been so tempted to not vote, but 18 hours from now, I will make a decision.  I’m not going to like it, but I’ll decide.
